Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 1, 2026

1.Overview

1.1
WhimCut is designed to collect as little personal information as possible. Almost everything you create — your cutouts, collages, and moodboards — stays on your Mac and is never uploaded to our servers.
1.2
This Privacy Policy explains what information may pass through our systems, why we use it, and how we handle it.

2.This Policy Covers Two Things

2.1
This Privacy Policy applies to both whimcut.com (this website) and the WhimCut macOS application. They handle information differently, so we've explained each separately below.

3.The Website (whimcut.com)

3.1
We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit whimcut.com and which pages they look at.
3.2
Google Analytics uses cookies and may collect information such as your approximate location (at the city or region level, not your precise location), browser and device type, and the pages you visit.
3.3
We use this information to understand website traffic and improve the site. We do not use Google Analytics data to identify you personally.
3.4
You can learn more about how Google handles this information in Google's Privacy Policy.
3.5
Most browsers also allow you to block or clear cookies if you prefer not to be tracked this way.

4.The WhimCut App

4.1
Local Storage. Every cutout, collage, and moodboard you create is saved directly on your Mac. Your creative content is not uploaded to our servers or stored in the cloud. WhimCut's core creative features work without an online account or cloud storage.
4.2
Screen Recording Permission. WhimCut asks for Screen Recording permission because this is how macOS allows an app to capture content from your screen. WhimCut uses this permission only when you actively perform a screen capture or crop. It does not continuously record your screen, run screen capture in the background, or otherwise store or transmit your screen content.
4.3
No Account Required. You do not need to sign up or log in to use WhimCut. We do not collect your name, email address, or registration details simply because you use the app.
4.4
License Activation (Full Version Only). If you purchase the Full Version, activating your license sends the following information to our license verification service:
(a)
Your activation code;
(b)
A hardware-derived device identifier for your Mac; and
(c)
A short device label containing your Mac's model and a short technical suffix, such as MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019) · A1B2.
4.5
The device label does not include your Mac's custom device name or your real name.
4.6
Our license verification service checks with Creem, our payment processor and Merchant of Record, to verify that your activation code is valid. This information is used only to confirm your purchase and enforce the device limit associated with your license.
4.7
Our license verification service may process your IP address for a short period to prevent abuse, such as repeated automated attempts to guess activation codes.
4.8
Our hosting and infrastructure providers may also retain standard technical logs, such as IP addresses, request timestamps, and other basic request information, as part of their normal operation.

5.Payments

5.1
All payments for WhimCut are processed by Creem, acting as our Merchant of Record.
5.2
We do not see or store your card number or full payment details. Payment and transaction information is handled directly by Creem.
5.3
You can learn more about how Creem handles personal information in Creem's Privacy Policy.

6.How We Use Information

6.1
We use the limited information described in this policy only when necessary to:
(a)
operate and improve whimcut.com;
(b)
process and verify WhimCut licenses;
(c)
prevent abuse and unauthorized use of licenses;
(d)
respond to support requests; and
(e)
comply with applicable legal obligations.
6.2
We do not sell your personal information.
6.3
We do not use your creative content for advertising, analytics, or AI training.

7.Third-Party Services

7.1
WhimCut uses a small number of third-party services to operate the website, process payments, and verify licenses. These may include:
(a)
Google Analytics — for understanding website traffic and usage;
(b)
Creem — for payment processing, purchase records, and Merchant of Record services; and
(c)
Hosting and infrastructure providers — to operate our website and license verification service.
7.2
These providers may process information on our behalf as necessary to provide their services.
7.3
We do not sell your personal information or share it with third parties for their own advertising purposes.

8.If You Contact Us

8.1
If you email us for support, we will receive your email address and whatever information you choose to include in your message.
8.2
This may include your activation code or other technical information that helps us diagnose an issue.
8.3
We use this information only to provide support, maintain our records, and resolve issues related to WhimCut.
8.4
We do not sell this information or share it with third parties for their own advertising purposes.

9.Data Retention

9.1
We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
9.2
License and activation information may be retained for as long as necessary to manage your license, enforce device limits, and prevent unauthorized use.
9.3
Support emails may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to provide support and maintain appropriate records.
9.4
Technical logs may be retained by our hosting and infrastructure providers according to their own retention policies.

10.Data Security

10.1
We take reasonable measures to protect the information we process.
10.2
However, no method of transmitting or storing information electronically is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10.3
Your cutouts, collages, moodboards, and other creative content remain on your Mac and are not transmitted to our servers as part of WhimCut's normal operation.

11.Children's Privacy

11.1
WhimCut is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
11.2
If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

12.Your Rights

12.1
Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, or delete information we hold about you.
12.2
For example, these rights may apply under the GDPR if you are in the EU/EEA or under the CCPA and other applicable laws if you are in California.
12.3
Because most of WhimCut's functionality is local and your creative content remains on your own device, there is very little personal information for us to hold.
12.4
For information we do hold, such as support emails or license-related information, you can contact us at whimcut.app@gmail.com and we will do our best to help with your request.
12.5
Purchase and transaction records processed by Creem may be subject to Creem's own privacy practices and legal obligations. For information held by Creem, you may also need to contact Creem directly.

13.International Data Transfers

13.1
Some of our service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live.
13.2
Where required by applicable law, we take reasonable steps to ensure that such transfers are handled in accordance with applicable data protection requirements.

14.Changes to This Policy

14.1
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
14.2
If we make a material change, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If required by applicable law, we will provide additional notice.
